Fake Profiles On Social Media Platforms

CATFISHING ON THE RISE

Be wary who you communicate and form relationships with on social networks.

Hey peeps today I am going to be talking about ‘catfishing’. We may not all know about it, with me included but I’m hoping that it will be a learning experience for the both of us. The discussion will be around catfishing, how to prevent it from happening to your peers/family and what are the signs that it may be happening to you Fam and lastly how to deal with catfishing.
Catfishing is when an individual creates a fake identity by simply taking someone else’s pictures and trick you into falling in love with the person but in reality you find that the person you are talking to looks nothing like the person on their profile. There are several ways in which you can check if you being catfished.

I know we all want to have our information displayed on our profiles for instance on Facebook, trust Fam I do that too. It’s annoying getting invites from people who have no information about themselves but sometimes it’s to protect themselves from whoever is out there. Just be on high alert as to the amount of information you put at people’s disposal, because it can result in someone copying it and creating a fake account. I speak from experience family, I was approached by my friend Tshiamo who asked why I had created a new account at that point I was puzzled as to what the hell are you talking about dude. But that same day a few people asked the same question. I had to verify this claim, so I searched and the results were shocking, someone actually created a fake account. I was left with no choice but to limit my details on all social media platforms and reported the guy because if my parents knew trust I’d be dead Fam. It took time to deal with the fact that this just happened, which is why we need to protect our loved ones from people on social media platforms and Cybercrime talks about educating young kids about these dangers.
People who are normally catfished usually are going through relationship problems and these people have a way with words and you will form a bond or even fall in love like Spencer Morril did.
